The impressive Gueule Valley Viaduct, 1,107 metres long and 52 metres high, spans the valley. It was destroyed and rebuilt several times to stop the advance of the German and Allied armies. 14,000 workers and prisoners of war were put to work on the construction. Many of them did not survive the hard and dangerous work.
